Q: Where can I find materials that won’t get me into copyright trouble?
A: There is a great deal of content on the web available for fair use.
For starters, I would search for Creative Commons photos, music and text.
http://search.creativecommons.org/
We’ll be putting a fuller list together to send out to everyone who has registered, and also post it on the site.
Normally, if you’re using images and/or video for interpretative or remix purposes, there are not as many issues.
But you’re right - if you do win a prize, it will change things quite a bit.
And, we cannot take responsibility if you use a celebrity’s image and they decide to take action.
While we are putting together a fuller list of places to find open content, there are a few good places I look for materials:
www.archive.org
www.vimeo.com.
For creative commons music, take a look at ccmixter.org
For images, you can search through flickr’s creative common’s images.
